Student Success At DITAWA
“Professional, reliable and always made me feel like a priority!
Michelle Holland, current driving instructor at Victorious Driving School-
Vicky are amazing mentors and even now that I am qualified, I constantly call on their knowledge and expertise.
I completed most of my training with Vicky and to say I learned a lot is an understatement. I realised that just being able to drive is such a small part of what is required to be a great instructor. To teach in a way that your learner can retain the information is a skill that Vicky has worked at for over 20 years as a driving instructor. Her methods are tried and tested and her love for what she does is genuine, I believe that this experience is what makes her an amazing instructor and mentor.
I made many calls to different driving schools and was finding it really difficult to get someone to teach me the ropes. I knew I didn’t want to complete a Cert. IV as I wanted practical experience not being stuck in a classroom. Some of the bigger schools expected me to have passed my assessment or done a Cert. IV before they would take me on and some of the smaller businesses did not see the value in training a new instructor. I stumbled across Vicky by pure chance and could not be happier, what a stroke of luck. I knew the first time we caught up that she would be a fantastic person to work with and that we could have a laugh but also would be totally professional. The cost of the training was very reasonable and I made that money back within a couple of weeks of getting my instructor’s licence.
The training Vicky provide comes in four parts. Firstly, my driving needed to be assessed, bad habits rectified and driving processes implemented. Although I have been driving for a long time, I needed to be refreshed on the sequences I would need to teach. Another important part of my learning experience was observation. I sat in on Vicky’s lessons for constructive hours, observing how she taught her students, little tricks that she has come up with over the years to help her students with manoeuvres and other aspects of driving that they may be struggling with. There is a process for everything. Each student is assessed on their driving ability in the first lesson and then a plan is put in place for the following lessons. The time spent in the back of the car was vital to my confidence to take the next step. The third step was to actually teach a learner myself with Vicky in the back seat observing me. I learned much from this experience and the detailed debriefs after each lesson were invaluable. It also allowed me a taste of what being an instructor is all about and if it was the career for me.
Vicky had no expectations of me once I became qualified. She said she would like me to work with her, but it was my choice. I paid for some time but got so much more than that, Vicky was so generous with their knowledge. They want me to be the best instructor that I can be. I can’t see myself leaving, I love our driving school!
